New logo

Besides a new name and a new updated blog, you must have noticed my new logo! I'm so happy with it!
It was designed especially for Sweet Appetite by Janneke Hoeben; Culinary Illustrator.

Janneke graduated from the Art academy in Utrecht as a fashiondesigner. The collection she made for her final exams was an ode to food: "The seduction of food."
During her career as a fashiondesigner her inspiration almost always came from food. Different colours and flavours during different seasons, Janneke was inspired by it all.

Now, lucky for us, after ten years she started a new career; she's the most talented Culinary Illustrator!

Janneke designed my new logo and I'm so happy with. Besides a very talented and gifted lady, Janneke is also very nice and takes all the effort to understand what you want your design to be.

To see more off her work, check out her website and be suprised! Also, keep an eye on my blog because Janneke and I will team up soon...

Do you also have a Sweet Appetite?

As you all can see, a lot has changed on my blog.
Most importantly, the name of my blog and business have changed!
From the beginning of next year "Alle Taarten" will change into Sweet Appetite.

Why? Sometimes you notice you need a change. "Alle Taarten" means "Every Cake." And I don't make every cake anymore. Also, try to let someone from abroad pronounce "Alle Taarten." It's almost impossible :)

Deciding on a new name wasn't easy. Then one day, driving in the car, the answer came. It has been so close by already for such a long time. The name was hidden in a sweet, sweet song. Caramel, sung by Chiara Civello (original version is from Suzanne Vega)

Sweet Appetite...

I've listened to Chiara's music in the car driving trough Italy, it was on my Ipod, flying in a plane the first time and keeping me calm :), I have been dancing on it (in my living room then..) for years and I know the words by heart.
And I always have an Appetite for Sweets.

More to come about the name change and other fabolous things soon! For now, let me know what you think about my new business name?

Dutch or English?

A little while ago I started blogging in English. I had doubts, wouldn't my blog be less liked by all the great Dutch readers who come to my workshops, order their weddingcake with me or who read my blog for some other reason?

Under my last post (which was posted far to long ago!) Katja ask why I was writing my blog in English?
Well, it's simple. And it's the reason I'm blogging in English :)

The world is my home! I travelled and met new friends from all over the world! England, France, Italy (mi manca l'Italia!), Germany, the USA, Marocco, Holland, Greece etc. And I'm so happy I did.
I know my friends read my blog, from all over the world. And I love staying connected to them. I love everything they taught me about food and pastry, about friendship crossing borders. About when you share a recipe, a plate, the memory and traditions connected to this food, it doesn't matter which language you speak.

So, I hope you don't mind, but I will continue writing my blog in English for now. And hey, how many blogs do you love to read which are (lucky for us!) written in English? So we can all enjoy them!

1000 Ideas for decorating Cupcakes, Cookies and Cakes!

As promised in my last blog post I'm attempting to be a regular blogger. So here you go Katja :)
And this news, well, I just have to share with you!!

A while ago I sent in some pictures to Sandra Salamony and Gina Brown for their book "1000 ideas for decorating cupcakes, cookies and cakes" Both of them were really enthousiastic about one of the pictures in particular.

Guess what, five photographes of my cakes are going to be printed in their book! And guess what again...This I'm so proud of :) The first cake in the book you will see, yes really; the FIRST!...,is one of my cakes!!
The photograph of one of my cakes is going to be printed on a full page in colour! On the FIRST PAGE! I'm going to keep it a little secret for now which cake it is. You just have to get the book :)
It's available already for pre-order on Amazon And I'm sure when the book is out, Riejanne from Cook and Book will help us over here in the Netherlands to buy the book. Right Riejanne :) ?

Again, I'm proud :) And above all honoured!! Because although I haven't seen the book yet (I'm so curious) the cover is very promising. Look at all the beautiful colors, designs and decorations. Made by so many talented cake decorators and bakers all over the world.
I love gazing through books, magazines and the internet for inspiration on a new cake. Now it's there in a book, with pictures of my cakes. I'm sorry for this happy, happy post but I can't stop smiling...:)

Bas en Lize; cupcakes!

It has been way to long since I blogged. I've got so much to share!

Usually I don’t make a weddingcake for a bride and groom when I'm acquainted with them true friends or family. In the years I’ve had a lot of requests for a “gift wedding cake” and after a while it just became too much. But this weddingcake and cupcakes, I had to make them...

I just couldn’t say no. A little bit because the mother of the groom didn't let me :) Also because the parents of the groom are very nice and special people. Not to me in particular, but to someone dearest to me; my mother…
They, as in the parents of the groom, are her neighbours. Edward en Froukje have been so sweet to my mother when she was not well, they’re always there when somethings up. They just make the Dutch saying:”It’s better to have a good neighbor then a good friend” true in every way!

Their son was getting married. Froukje, as a proud mother, already told me and we talked a bit about “a” wedding cake. Then, one evening when I was going to have dinner at my mothers and the car was parked… Froukje almost pulled me out of my car saying:”Bas en Lize are here now and we are talking about the wedding(cake…..). A few days later Lize called me and we set up a designing meeting. Yes, I made their cake :)

Lize was great working with. She had a complete image of her wedding day. She showed me her dress on a video and she had a definite color scheme; white, lilac, pink and purple!

Lize wanted a fresh, modern, colourful, romantic design. We decided on a small cutting cake and cupcakes. Which I loved preparing ofcourse after taking the masterclass in Cupcakes and Fondant Fancies at the Peggy Porschen cake studios in London!
The flowers were all arranged by the Westerbouwing. I just loved them!

When I get the picture of Lize and Bas cutting the cake I will ofcourse share it with you. For now, they are enjoying their honeymoon. And I wish them all the sunshine they want on this, because oh deer, did it rain on their weddingday!!
Bas and Lize, I wish you luck, love and happiness! Thank you for letting me be part of your wedding day!
